Safehouse for Orphans, Lesotho

Title:Safehouse for orphaned children at Lesotho, Southern Africa
Description:Through the hard work of  80 Irish volunteers and local workers organised by Acara Action Projects, Kelliher Miller Architects designed and helped construct a safehouse for orphaned and vulnerable children in Mafatene, Lesotho. The building was constructed from ground floor slab to a completed furnished facility in a timeframe of two weeks. The volunteers came from a wide range of  backgrounds, some with building experience and some with none. Today the safehouse is run successfully by the local community providing a safe haven for vulnerable children in a region greatly affected by poverty and short life expectancy.
